Playing Minecraft doesn’t require the latest gaming laptop out there, as the game has some relatively low system requirements. But does this mean that you can play the game without a dedicated graphics card?
Yes, you can play Minecraft on integrated graphics cards. Most integrated GPUs are perfectly capable of running the game smoothly. You will still have to adjust the settings a bit, and it might get sluggish at times… but it will be generally playable.
This is because Minecraft is built to care more about CPU (your processor) and less about your graphics card. Sure, the better your system, the better the game will run… but for most users that play the regular game, integrated GPU is just enough with the right specifications.
We can take a look at the minimum system requirements for Minecraft on PC in order to understand the relatively low resources that it needs:
RAM: 4GBCPU: Intel Celeron J4105 or AMD FX-4100 (or above)GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4,000 or AMD Radeon R5 (both integrated GPU!)HDD storage: 4GB
It is true that these are the minimum system requirements, which means that the game won’t run on max settings and at peak performance if you only have these… but most modern laptops have at least more RAM and better processors than the minimum requirements, resulting in a decent performance even without dedicated GPU.
Sure, it does help if you have a dedicated graphics card, but you don’t need one to fully enjoy the game. What you might need for that is a custom, amazing skin – click here to check out my recommended ones.
Minecraft FPS Boost For AMD Computers!
Low Vs Ultra Radeon RX Vega 8 Performance Review
Playing Minecraft on the Radeon RX Vega 8, which is a 4 year old graphics card will likely return a reliable 73 FPS. Which is at High settings on 1080p performance.
With such a great performance found in 1080p we step things up to 1440p. Where we still see a solid 40 frame count in Ultra graphics, even on 1440p resolution. Or it could also get 49 FPS on Medium graphics at 4K resolution, if you wanted higher resolution.
To summarise, we feel that with the Radeon RX Vega 8 you can enjoy Minecraft at 1440p resolution pretty comfortably. The graphics card is going to run smoother on High 1440p rather than Ultra, where it would be getting 40 FPS. But when run on 1440p High it would get 56 FPS, and at Medium 82 FPS and then on Low it would return 105 FPS. The Radeon RX Vega 8 would also be good at 1080p Ultra, getting 52 FPS.
Can you play Minecraft without a GPU?
Yes, you can play Minecraft without a GPU. As long as you have a good integrated graphics card, you should be able to run the game just fine.
Multiplayer Minecraft – no matter if you play on the various servers, your realm or in a multiplayer game – will require a bit more resources and will get sluggish or even crash if you don’t have a dedicated graphics card.
But you will still be able to play the game without major problems for most of the time. You will have to tweak your settings and lower them accordingly – a cheap price to pay compared to the potential one of investing in a new laptop.
The Radeon RX 580 finished the second test with an average framerate of 254 FPS and a low 1% of 60 FPS on the old driver. With the Adrenalin Edition 22.6.1 driver, it managed an average framerate of 454 FPS and a low 1% of 61 FPS. Performance increased by 79%.

AMD released the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver yesterday along with the companys Noise Suppression technology and other goodies. You can download it directly from AMDs website.
In the first test, the Radeon RX 580 delivered an average framerate of 302 FPS with a low 1% of 71 FPS on the previous Adrenalin Edition 22.6.1 driver. With the new driver, the Polaris-powered graphics card pushed the average framerate up to 547 FPS and a low 1% of 32 FPS. So were looking at a whopping 81% improvement in average framerates.
The OpenGL performance boost isnt strictly in games, either. Synthetic benchmarks that leverage OpenGL, such as Unigine Heaven, also benefit from the Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 driver. YouTuber Cary Golomb (opens in new tab) tested Unigine Heaven with AMDs Ryzen 7 6800U mobile APU, which wields the Radeon 680M iGPU. At 10W, the APU delivered 12% higher scores. The performance uplift scaled with the power limit. Increasing the TDP to 15W and 20W raised the scores by 19% and 21%, respectively.
