The Potion of Luck is an elixir only available in Minecraft Java. Players who drink it have a higher chance of finding better random loot in chests.
While the randomly generated worlds of Minecraft have plenty of loot to find, not all of it is worthwhile; however, players can increase their chances of finding better items by using the Potion of Luck. Exclusive to Java Edition, the Potion of Luck adds 1× level to the status attribute “generic.luck,” resulting in improved quality of any random loot found within Minecraft chests. This buff also applies to fishing, and although fish dont have an intrinsic “quality,” increased Luck will boost the chances of finding rarer fish or items while using a Fishing Rod.
The effects of a Potion of Luck will last for 300 seconds or 5 minutes. Minecraft fans can receive the same buff from related items such as the Splash Potion of Luck, Lingering Potion of Luck, or Arrow of Luck. However, keep in mind that the lingering potion only lasts for 1.25 minutes and the arrow even less at 37 seconds. Firing the arrow at a player will also likely damage the target. Another important detail to note is that treasure from a chest will generate once opened. In other words, drinking a Potion of Luck will not change the loot contents of a “used chest.”
To get the Potion of Luck exclusive to Minecraft Java Edition, players will need to either be in Creative Mode or use console commands. The potion and the Luck status effect were initially planned to be a part of Patch 1.14 yet were never fully implemented into the game. As a result, players must spawn the items in Creative Mode and then switch to Survival, or they need to use the console command, “/give @p minecraft:potion{Potion:luck}.” To obtain the Potion of Luck via Creative, open the item menu and select the Compass icon to access the search bar. Type in “luck” to see all the unique potions and arrows.
The Mystery Behind Minecrafts Secret LUCK Effect…
Effect[]
Adds 1 × level to attribute generic.luck
, making loot table entries with a high quality
score more likely, and entries with negative quality
less likely. It also increases the chances of bonus_rolls
occurring. Currently, only fishing uses quality
. The new weight of each entry is floor(base_weight + quality * generic.luck)
. Negative levels decrease luck.
Using a fishing rod enchanted with Luck of the Sea increases a players generic.luck
attribute, but doesnt actually grant the Luck status effect.
