Part 1 of Minecrafts Caves and Cliffs expansion has been out since June 2021, and the second part now has a release date for the fans.
Minecraft released the first half of the Caves and Cliffs expansion back in the summer, promising that the second half would be released sometime this winter. On November 17th, the official Minecraft Twitter confirmed that release date much to the delight of fans everywhere.
Back in April of 2021, Mojang announced that the next massive Minecraft update would have to be split into two parts. The company explained that this was due to health worries for the staff because of the pandemic and worries about the quality of the release while navigating “the challenges of working remotely.” Part 1 of the update launched in June 2021, bringing players new mobs like axolotls and goats, and even added new blocks. Part 2 will complete the update, adding new biomes like the Mountain Grove and Snowy Slopes as well as things like candles, Noise Caves, and the ability to dig below Y=0.
Minecrafts update 1.18 Caves and Cliffs will be live starting November 30, 2021. The newest update will be available for the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft on Xbox Game Pass, “Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows 10, and Windows 11 – and Java Edition on Windows, macOS, and Linux.” While there is no release time, players can most likely expect the update to be available at midnight local time.
While the vast majority of the planned features will be available on the 30th, some features did not make the cut. Players will finally get the terrain upgrades that have been promised since Caves and Cliffs was announced in October 2020 like higher peaks, noise caves, more things to see in caves, and more biomes.
However, the three things originally promised in this update that will be missing are archeology, bundles, and goat horns. These three things have been “put on hold” according to Mojang, and not canceled completely. These items will not appear in the Wild Update either; they will “come to Minecraft in the future when we’re able to add them in the best possible way.”
Also, Mojang has also promised that players wont be losing anything in the upcoming Caves and Cliffs update Part 2, just like they did with Part 1. Players will long-running worlds with their massive building projects wont disappear, and the old worlds will have the new features thanks to a new blending technique that Mojang has been working on.
This blending technique will allow the new features into old worlds without damaging anything a player has been building in their seeds. So that means everyone will get to see these fabulous new updates at the end of this month.
